Royal Crescent House Extension, Fenham, Newcastle
A single-storey rear extension and porch that opens kitchen and dining to the garden – shaped carefully around the neighbours.
Fenham, Newcastle upon Tyne · 2025 · Planning approved · Ref 2024/1573/01/HOU
THE BRIEF
Bring kitchen, dining and everyday living together in a terraced home, and connect the house properly to its rear garden.
OUR APPROACH
A rear extension of around 5 m that chamfers back to around 3.4–3.5 m near both shared boundaries, with a hipped roof, low eaves and matching materials to protect neighbours' light and outlook. Visualisations were used to test layout, furniture and flow before construction.
OUTCOME
Recommended for conditional approval by Newcastle City Council in January 2025. The planning officer found no unacceptable harm to neighbouring outlook, light, streetscape character or parking.
PLANEST ROLE
Architectural design, planning coordination, interior design and visualisation.
Drawings and images show design intent and are not for construction.
